Golfathon Champions Crowned, 189 Named as “Golf Iron Men”
The 4th Mission Hills Golfathon has wrapped up after four months. One hundred contestants competed on September 9th on the Greg Norman Golf Course, which has the highest degree of difficulty in Asia. Liang Zheng won the title in the Juniors’ Division, while He Shaoping, Xiao Daisy, Deng Qixuan topped the Seniors’ Division, Ladies’ Division and Men’s Division respectively.
With its expanding influence and increasingly fierce competition, the four-year-old event has become a tradition at Mission Hills. The first Omega Mission Hills Word Cup course, Olazabel Course, was available during the this year’s Golfathon. A total of 2,753 contestants from 21 countries and regions including Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and the United States took part in the event - the most ever seen in golf history.
As an additional challenge, the organizing committee of events ruled that any contestant finishing the 9 qualifying rounds within five days (previously nine matches in seven days) would be entitled to “Iron Man” by Mission Hills. Increased in difficulty though, A total of 189 golfers survived the challenge of nine rounds in five days, with some of them conquering the schedule in three days.
